Independent Mechanic in Dorset

As we border Dorset we thought you might find the following information interesting.

Situated in the South West of England Dorset borders Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset and Devon. Dorset's county town is Dorchester but there are a number of other notable towns such as the rapidly growing Gillingham, only 4 miles away from our workshop. Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton, Blandford and Sherborne are quintessential Dorset market towns whilst Bournemouth, Weymouth and Poole to the south of the county offer a larger town for shoppers in Dorset and holiday makers alike.

Places in Dorset

The famous Jurassic coast of Dorset encompasses Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Kimmeridge and Lyme Regis to mention just a few of the famous Dorset coastline beauty spots. However, there are a huge number of beautiful, small villages inland in Dorset which deliver that picture postcard view. Such villages are Buckhorn Weston, Bourton (which has borders to Somerset and Wiltshire within its parish), Zeals (just in Dorset), Milborne Port, Kington Magna, West Stour and East Stour, Stour Provost, Motcombe and Fontmell Magna.

Dorset Attractions

There are many attractions in Dorset catering for all pockets and interests. From Compton Abbas airfield with it's restaurant for a relaxed meal with a beautiful view point to Bovington Tank museum towards the south of Dorset. In addition there is a huge amount of history in Dorset ranging from the Neolithic (Stone Age) at Cranborne Chase to the Iron Age hill forts of Hod Hill, Hambledon Hill and Badbury Rings, to the comparatively modern of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury and Hardy's Cottage, home to author Thomas Hardy. Dorset also had a WW2 airstrip Zeals. Of course the most recent history Dorset made was the 2012 Olympic venue for the sailing at Weymouth and Portland.

Transport links in Dorset

Although Dorset has a remote and rural feel to it there are major transport links in or near to the county. The A303 runs on the northern edge of the county offering a good link to London in about 2 hours. With trains running to London regularly from Gillingham and Castle Cary Dorset has made a good place to live for those who work in London.
